I tried to install my T5 tranny from an 89 305 TBI onto a 88 350 TPI engine this weekend. But the tranny shaft where the throwout bearing rides hits the clutch disc while the bell housing still has about 2" left to go before it makes contact with the engine. Do I need a longer/different bell housing??

 

I DID A SIMILAR SWAP. 1988 T-5 TO A 87 350. IT WILL FIT. MAKE SURE THE CLUTCH DISK IS NOT BACKWARD, MAKE SURE THE PILOT BEARING IS IN CORRECTLY. I USED THE BELLHOUSING FROM THE T-5 (305 MOTOR) AND A THE 305 FLYWHEEL AND CLUTCH ETC. IT WORKS FINE BUT IT WAS A BITCH TO GET IT ALL LINED UP SO IT WOULD GO TOGETHER!
