How to swap 2.8L FI to Carb'd 350 (no Computer)?
Now I have a weak 2.8L MPFI '86 Firebird with TH700R4 auto trany. I want to put in a rebuilt carb'd 350 with no computer. Do I need to change out the trans also. Would it be easier to get an old donor car-What kind? What would be least expensive way of going at this? How much work would be involved?
I'm looking for a good project going and to get some power behind my beauty cheap as possible.
I'd really appreciate anyone with any experience or know-how to help me out.
Thanks
Erik

You can't use anything off of the V6. Not one nut or bolt. The POS is all metric. Can't use tranny either. Your gonna need new frame motor mounts. That's about the hardest thing to put in. Hard to get to the bolts. You will need a new 700R4 or go with a TH350 or manual. It's pretty easy to do. If you have any questions you can e-mail me. bhaas@bigfoot.com

Mods: Threw 2.8 in garbage, put in rebuilt
350 .060 over, XE268H Comp cam, Edlebrock
Performer Intake and Edlebrock 600 CFM Carb,
Pete Jackson noisy GearDrive (which sounded
cool for about 5 minutes, now I'm sick of it)
Rebuilt TH350, 3.42 Rear Gears. LCA RLB's.

Quick tip, If your going to lose the computer, all of the wire coming out of the right side fender go to the computer. The important circuts, lights, starting, charging, ignition, etc.. come out of the left side. When I scrapped the electronics on my 86 (V-8 car) the only wires I found on the right that I used are the blue and green for the trans (back up lights).
