chevy400 sb

i am thinking about engine swaps and looking into the possibilities. i am loooking into the small block 400 because of the numbers everyone says you can run with them but i am also wondering a round about gas milage guesstamate i dont know my mods yet but i am just wondering.. i am also wondering if some of my parts from my 305 willbe able to bolt up to it.. ex. my new water pump manifold and so on. i live in the desert and i am also wondering what would be the problems with heating up i have heard these engines heat up.. would i be better off with a 350? might want to be a daily driver might be a weekend car.
Thanks and sorry so long
Shawn
