4bbl to TPI swat questions
I have a 86 iroc with the old school carburation
i am going to be putting in a stock TPI out of an 88 IROC
my question is
the wiring warness from the computer that goes over to the aldl connector under the dash look like it has different wires running to it
do I have to change the wiring harness inside the car too
or will it work as is
I am changing the under hood harness

Well, I just finished putting an '89 TPI in my '84 bird. there are a couple things that I was not expecting.
The 15-pin connector by the computer had I think 4 wires that were wrong.
I had to rewire the check engine light.
I built a 555 timer circuit to send an oscillating signal to the computer to trick it into thinking the VATS was there.
I had to add 2 wires to the ALDL connector from the 15-pin connector.
The blower and A/C control harness in my car didn't have the same plugs as the one from the TPI, so there was some splicing there.
Most of this stuff is not too hard if you have a test light, schematics for both cars, and a little know-how. if you have specific questions, I might be able to help you.
Everything works so far, the only thing I have not checked is the cruise control, and I think my back up lights aren't working 'cause the TPI harness was from an auto car and I have 5-speed... I'll figure that out eventually though.
