Damn LT1 swap

Ok check it out. I've got an 86 IROC. Put in an LT1 and 4l60e from a 94 Z. This is what is going on.
The damn thing WON'T charge!!! I've gone through 2 brand new batteries and 4 brand new alternators. What the hell is going on?!?!?!?!
And when it DOES run, it runs rich as all hell and it only runs for a few seconds and shuts down. What is going on here!?!?!
One more thing, How can I fabricate my own power steering lines? Has anyone done it before??

could the battery be grounded somewhere? and about the engine starting and running rich and then dieing, i dont know if the iac is anything like normal thirdgens fuel injected systems but i had the same problem when i set up the min air and didnot wait to the iac completly closed. i dont know much about the lt1 but good luck with it, hope you have more luck than my project

well my friend you have the same problem I did !!!! me it was 4 alternators and 3 batteries before I found out how an alternator was working, the original alternator that came with the motor is probably still good, try this: connect the big reg wire from the back of the alternator to the battery but not directly to the battery connector, plug it on the ceramic distribution unit in front of the battery. now take the old plug from your old alternator that came with your original motor there's a green or brown wire and also a red wire.

The green or brown wire needs to be connected to the ignition in the fuse box or near that , check with a test light for pink wires when key is turned to "ON", light should be ON. check near the left side kick panel there should be a 4 pin connector witch is not plugged and there should be a big pink wire on that connector, plug this with the green or brown wire and make sure it's not in the way because you'll yank it with your feet while drive (happened to me!).

the red wire should connect to your starter's "+" connection via a fusable link.

this should solve your problem, it did for me after spending 2 days changing alternators & batteries

check PSI at your fuel pump feed line, it needs to 45-52 psi. also check if injector connectors are correctly plugged and check your distributor rotor , it maybe deffective.
From my point of view it seems a problem with the fuel pump because it's running very very rich. did you plugged your O2 sensors ???

O2 sensors are in.
I connected those wires exactly the way you said to....it's charging!!! Thanks a lot!!
The fuel pump is fine. I'm starting to think it's cuz I removed the smog equipment and still have o2 sensors. Not sure if that makes sense though.

sorry about posting 3 times, I didn't read completly what you wrote. For your Power stearing line it's pretty simple just buy regular 3/8 stainless lines, buy 3 swedge lock fittings. take your old PS line, cut it and merge it with the new one with those swedge lock fitting, watchout do, these fittings will leak if they have too much vibration, make sure it is hold in place very thight.

don't remove the o2 sensors they need to be there. I removed my smog pump also. I don't know what is the problem but is it idling for a while or it's reving and then choking ??? Explain me what it's doing ...

maybe your Tv cable and trottle cable are incorrectly plugged ...

Okay check it out.
I turn the key, it kicks over quickly. While it's on, it runs for exactly 10 seconds (tested this 10 times). It then shuts down and won't start when I turn the key for exactly 5 min. WHILE it is on, it runs very poorly. It runs EXTREMELY rich. Have you ever smelled fuel from an injected car?? This was my first. It seems to idle rather irradictly. And it does want to bog out and stall. I'm gonna try and put the smog equipment back on. I'll see how it comes out.

Your passkey module is diffective or one of it's feature is not working properly, I would recommend check your passkey wiring again. I'm about 99% sure about that.
