Casting numbers

does any one know if chevy ever messes up on casting numbers

well I thought I found a 400 the guy said it was a 400 and every thing but the numbers said 350 it turned out to be a 350 the motor in the van was swapped for a 350 when it was supposed to have a 400 we got it all straightend out I just happened to waste a lot of gas picking it up finding out it was a 350 and taking it back
