Carbbed Swap Q's
Carbbed Swap Q's
Ok, so I am considering a Carbbed 305/350 swap (or perhaps TBI, but I hear they don't do so well). I currently have one that *had* a 2.8 ( I know, buy a factory v8, yadda yadda, ain't gonna happen, I have my own reasons).
I have the tranny aspect covered, my question is on the carbbed setup. mainly, what about the existing computer/harness, and the VATS?
IOW, if I do a carb-powered v8 swap, do I simply leave various bits unhooked (covered/sealed of course) or does this setup also require a new harness? What about the VATS in a carb setup, is it even affected (I've heard both ways, both here on the boards and elesewhere).
I know about the brake line move (for motor mounts), I know about the tranny (got that covered), and the exhaust. I know some think that the carbs look off, but that is not a terrible concern for me right now, as I may later swap in a newer FI model when i get more cash-ola.
Thanks, I'll be making my decision in the next day or two.

Well I may not be much help on the v-6 deal, but this is what I did when I took out my TPI. Remove the computer, remove the wires that were connected to the computer. I then ran 2 relays. 1 covered both fans, the other is for the fuel pump. For the VATS, I found the purple wire from the starter going up to the "wire block" on the drivers side. There is a tan wire of the same size as the purple, that went to a little black block with the purple wire. I spliced these 2 wires together.
