Vortec Woes

So I bought a pair of vortec heads a couple months back. Today I started to take the springs off and looked at the exhaust valve on the center cylinder and there is a crack from the valve to the water jacket, So the heads are crap. I only paid $100 for them so I am not out that much. I know that the heads that I have on the car do not flow well and never will, so I am pretty set on getting something, but I don't know if I should try vortecs again or just get something aftermarket. What would you guys recommend I do?

Thanks!!!

Re: Vortec Woes

First thing before you buy any head, have it checked for cracks, bent valve, ect. I have vortecs and they were checked out upfront. And for the money 450.00 is all I have in them, completely reworked for 1.6 rockers and valve guides cut for 5.25 cam lift. I could not do that with after market heads. They are hard to beat for a budget build.
