I have 85 camaro with a 305 and a 5 speed manual transmission. I've just pulled out the 305 and replaced it with a 79' 355 out of a truck. My problem is that when i went to bolt the starter it did not match up with 350 bolt pattern. The 350 had a diagnol pattern for the starter. So then the search for right starter with the correct offset began. On the 350 block there is only two holes which are diganol and no third hole.

 

Break out your drill bits. You have to use the inline pattern, if your block doesn't have it you have to drill and tap the other hole. There is no other way around it.
