Anybody who has the GMPP 350HO Delux or 383
I presently have an LG4 305 in my car. I was wanting to either hop up that motor a little or put in a new 350. I was looking into the 350HO Delux, because it comes complete and seems like a good package. The 383 they have also looks like a good engine for the money. My question is will either of these two motors fit under my hood. That 350HO looks like it has a pretty tall intake, and I'm afraid it won't fit under the hood. If I didn't do that, I was thinking about getting the 383 and possibly putting smaller metering rods in my Q-jet, and reusing it and rebuilding my current distributor. Would this work, or would it be better to get an aftermarket carb/distributor setup? I would also entertain any other ideas anybody has. I don't necessarily need a racecar, but I want something considerably faster than what I have now. Emissions are not a problem here, so that is not a concern. Sorry this is so long, but I'm relatively new to doing this, and I'm trying to decide which way I want to go.

that 383 is a nice package they have.with a quick cam swap(get rid of the truck cam)and headers it'd be kller in a 3rd gen.watch the lift w/ those heads...........

Did you ever find out if the 350HO delux would fit. I'm intested in that one for my 83TA and I'm wondering if it will clear the hood.

The HO would "fit", but the emissions thing is a major factor. Figure on removing all computer controls, or go through some pains getting them to work with the Vortec heads (the intake, carb and distributor that come with the Deluxe gotta go - then you get to plumb exhaust up to the intake manifold). But, with a dual-snorkel air cleaner or drop-base open element, the Deluxe stuff will allow the hood to close.
Same answer with the 383 and computer - Vortec heads. The HT383 is intended to be a truck replacement engine, so it has a truck-oriented cam in it. Not that it wouldn't be a big power increase over the LG4, it'll just be power limited by the cam. It is a roller, though - very nice touch.
Plan on a complete exhaust upgrade with either engine.

Thanks for the response five7.
Can anyone help me with the following.
I have a Canadian car with non-cc q-jet and no AIR. So it should probably be OK with the distributor and carb that come with the delux motor.
That leaves the EGR.
Am I correct in assuming that there's no way to modify the intake on the delux motor to accomodate an externally plumbed EGR system.
What is a Vette-style Bigmouth. Will it fit the HO delux or would something else be required.
Is there an EGR intake that will fit both the LG4 and the HO 350 delux.
I have Hedmans with the AIR tubes removed. If I run a tube from them for the EGR am I likely to have problems such as maybe cracking or splitting the new plumbing caused by engine vibration or something.
Thanx
