New project
New project
I am personaly into the 3rd gen Camaro, i work for a well known engine builder and we are doing a new motor in a very nicle, extra clean 86 Z-28 and i thought i would share some work and progress. the car is a true one owner ride from NC. has 260,000 miles on it. owner tells me its bein repainted ounce. the original 305 carb motor is just tired, Carb, fuel pump and etc etc has never bein touched. He came to us wanting a stock rebuild at first then it progressed from there. So hear is what has transpired. Motor removed torn down to bare block. Motor was bored 30 over, crank turned 10/10,crank is crossed drilled and complete rotating assy balanced to 00 Zero on each end. It has complete roller Valve train. We took and ported his heads alond with a gasket match on intake and exhaust side, stainless Valves and new heavy springs alnong with guide plates and screw in studs. 268 energy grind cam by comp. New edlbrock intake Q-jet Redone, underdrive crank pulley, new everything else, fuel pump, water pump, hoses, belts and so. New headers and why pipe, msd 6al box, New Dist. and so. will have 3 inch cat and 3inch stainless exhaust back to flowmaster and standard size tail pipes, front end was completely done over, gear change to a 3.08, tranny serviced. take a look at pics.

That's a lot to do to a 305. If he's an engine builder, surely he had a 350 shortblock available to build instead.
It'll probably run well, but nowhere near as well as a 350 built the same way would run.
But, it ain't my car or money.

Re: New project
Very Nice! I personally give him props for wanting to keep the original block in the car. Sure a 350 is a true upgrade, but if your not going for the power, and just wanting to spice up the current engine then ya, why not keep the original 305. Especially if everything else is stock, and he's the original owner.
And great work on the engine by the way. Looks like a beaut compared to what it used to look like I'm sure. (I can just imagine by the way my 305 looks like)
Keep it up!
