0411 PCM swap into 85T/A with T700r4... will it work?
Hey guys,
I'm about to do a vortec/0411pcm swap into the transam, gonna be running around 450hp 383 vortec motor with minram and run x24 sequential injection from efi connection, but i'm a little confused about the transmission...
If i keep my t700r4 which has been strengthened too handle 500hp and shiftkitted, will it overheat or get damaged?
will the tcc lockup will engage mechanically if the pcm isn't controlling it, or will it just float and over heat?
I don't really want to replace the transmission to get it to run reliably, and i don't see the advantages of electronic shift control as i've got a b&m megashifter so i change gear when i feel like it.
So basically can i run the t700r4 and keep it locking up however it does at the moment?

If it is built for 500 HP, it'll handle 450 HP.
The TCC will not lock up unless commanded. You can set it up so that it locks up via the 4th gear pressure switch, but you're going to have to set up that wiring yourself - the transmission only comes from the factory to be locked up via an external signal (without exception).
It's pretty simple to do - leave the current TCC lock-up power the way it is, but route the return wire (which is simply grounded in the ECM to lock up the TCC) to a "normally-open" single pole pressure switch in place of the one currently in the 4th gear position. The single pole will ground the terminal when pressure is applied, which will complete the circuit to the TCC lock-up solenoid and lock up the TCC.

Thank you...Capt'n Obvious :P

Thanks for that, you've saved me close to 5k
The B&M shiftter has a module with a bunch of wires so i'm assuming its either had a kit put on, or its controlling it independently anywa, so it should all be good.
Thanks again mate.

Wasn't sure why you were asking if 450 HP would overheat or damage a tranny built for 500 HP.
For sure use an axillary tranny cooler in front of the radiator. Even with TCC lock-up, you need to keep the heat down. Synthetic ATF has better heat withstanding properties than standard petroleum ATF as well.

yeah, i've got twin trans coolers installed already. its a pretty tricked out transmission.
Yeah I actually work in an oil analysis lab and deal with the stuff all the time. also helps that i can analyse my engine, trans diff oils and coolant whenever i please
