TPI to Carb Swap Checklist?
My dad and I will be doing our first engine swap once i get out of school this summer. We'll be swapping my IROC's 305 TPI for a 350 Carb we recently built. The engine itself is nearly complete (need a spread-square bore adapter and a dist.). I'm wondering what components we'll need to make this swap work. i.e. mechanical fuel pump, etc. What cables/bracketry we need to buy.
Don't omit something because it's "obvious". haha. remember, this is our first swap.
Thanks.

Re: TPI to Carb Swap Checklist?
The 305 and 350 blocks are the same on the outside. So pretty much everything can be reused off your 305. I.E. engine mounts, front accessories and brackets...
You dont NEED a mech fuel pump. You can run your stock fuel pump as long as you use a return style regulator.
You will need some sort of adapter to to correct your TV cable geometry, but I dont run an auto so I dont know much about that. And I'm unsure if the throttle cable can be reused, I know it can on the TBI cars. If not you can pick up a universal one at a local auto parts store.

Re: TPI to Carb Swap Checklist?
I swapped my 305TPI for a carbed 350 several years ago.
Your best bet is to find a carbed camaro or firebird and scavenge the following.
My list in no particular order:
Fuel tank pickup/sending unit.
Mechanical fuel pump/push rod
Replacement fuel line to bring supply across to pasenger side.(I took the factory line from the carbed vehicle and spliced it into the supply line for the TPI.)
Wiring harness. This will supply the few engine sensors (temp, fan relay) as well as the distributor. Directly replaces the existing harness. The computer harness and computer can be tossed.
TV cable. There's a difference between the TPI and TBI/carb.
Vacuum switch for transmission torque converter lock up control.
Rad hoses. The upper is different.
Thermostat housing.
A supply of various sizes of vacuum lines for vacuum advance, charcoal canister, vacuum switch.
Various automotive grade wiring for splices/additions to electrical.
Keep in mind that there are alternatives to all of this. As the previous poster said, you CAN run the in tank fuel pump with a regulator. If you have a schematic diagram, you can rewire your existing engine harness. You can forego automatic control of the TCC lockup and wire in a manual switch. (I've have both automatic and manual operation).
What I've listed is how I went about it. The biggest problem was splicing the fuel line and following the stock location for a carbed application. It runs along the drivers side 'frame' and then crosses over the transmission and onto the passenger side front sub frame. The OEM piece (from the donor car) does make it easier though.
