86 2.8 to 85 carb 305 questions
OK so here goes, I have been planning on rebuilding my little v6 for a DD but now have come across a great deal on a low mile 305 car to take apart for the camaro, the car is a 1985 caprice with a carbed 305 and a 700r4 now my question is what parts do I absolutely need to replace with new pieces and what parts will make the swap the caprice is complete from bumper to bumper and i wish to use as many pieces as possible from both cars to complete my budget swap,
I have read the v6-v8 swap sticky and I am still at a loss.. Goes to figure i can swap motors all day in a honda but this chevy has got me confused.
I know i will need to swap tailshaft housings between the trannys for the torque arm other than that what needs to be changed there?
I also know the motor mounts must be moved, can the v6 mounts be used and just moved?
Please Please help me I want my camaro on the road, also what changes will occur with the speedometer?

You can use the caprice mounts, both the block parts and the frame parts. You can use the caprice exhaust manifolds and your V6 cat, but you'll need an LG4 third-gen specific y-pipe. These can be found used or had new from Walker Manufacturing, through Jegs.
You should try to fit the caprice radiator. You'll need the caprice engine computer and harness.
It's a relatively easy swap, far easier than any Honda.
Just be sure to get some tape and a sharpie so you can label everything you disconnect. The more pics you take, the better for later reassembly.
If your V6 has an automatic, you can use that tailhousing, and swap those speedometer gears into the caprice trans, then the speedo will be correct. If your V6 has a 5 speed, then please just send me a PM.

the LG4 is the 140 hp 305 used in caprices and camaros and firebirds. But the L69 y-pipe won't work well for you, so you need the LG4 Y-pipe, since the caprice y-pipe won't fit your car.

Where are you located? I have a y-pipe from a 305 that's in good shape.

The air filter, I assume you mean. It will need to be drop base.

Re: 86 2.8 to 85 carb 305 questions
new question my new motor being carbed is it possible to eliminate the computer all together? i am interested in bring it back to the 60's style seeing that i believe the distributor is vacuum advance can i just put power to the coil and run it like that or is there something there that needs the computer to be functional.. otherwise what would i need to change to eliminate the comp?
