ok first off let me say im back in the third gen world
after selling my old 88. i bought a 1985 pontiac trans am 305 tpi 700r4 4whl disc brakes and posi rear . well the motor spun bearing and i havent pulled it out yet but i bought a 350 tbi out of a 1989 chevy truck. i cant for the life of me remember what i will have to change to fit the motor in i know there is an issue with the center intake bolt holes to make the tpi work on it. any ideas as to what i can do to make decent power cheap and be as efficient as possible thank u

Re: need some help
Take the heads off of the 305 and have 1.94 intake valves installed with a 3 angle valve job and '30 back cut on every valve.
Now your intake will line up no problem and you have a better head then the junk on the truck motor.
With the stock TPI on there it's not going to want to rev which is good for these heads, they'll fall on their face after 5000RPM on a 350. Porting is by far the most cost effective HP you can get, TPI and 305 heads both respond really well to it too. With the proper porting you could support a 350 @ 6500RPM, which of course means much more power.

Re: need some help
You need a flex plate to suit the '89 engine , the one from the '85 won't fit

You can't port stock runners, and their length is what suppresses RPM capability, not flow. Porting the plenum and base will produce benefits if you get aftermarket, shorter runners. Otherwise, don't waste your time.
