vortec 5.7 swap

ok, so im getting ready to start my engine swap on my 91 camaro. im ditching the weak 3.1 and stepping up my game. im putting on a procomp 6 inch single plane intake. the RPM range is 3000,7500. im wondering how the car will cruise at low RPMs. the motor is a 1st gen Vortec 350 with stock vortec heads. I would also like some advice on a good cam that will lay down nice power and serve as a good daily driver. MORE INFO ON THE MOTOR PLAN: its going to have a 650 cfm carb, headers w/true duals, MSD 6AL ignition, and a 700R4 with a trans go shift kit and 3000 stall. any advice on a cam or cruising with that set-up would be helpful thanx!

Any cam that runs that high will be a pig down low requiring lower diff gears to let engine spin up faster.
Great for a track car ; crap for a DD . esp lugging around town stoplight to stoplight
Not to mention bad fuel economy
Also the stock bottom end of the old Vortec engine you have is not rated to spin anywhere as high as what the intake " will " go so 1/2 it's rev range is wasted

It won't , you just leave it in 1st gear to keep the revs up
Have a look at the rev range you use when cruising now and compare it with the range of the intake.
Are they the same?

Re: vortec 5.7 swap

Sounds like a victor jr intake. Unless your putting a set of heads that really need to breathe and building a "stout" motor the intake will actually restrict you for street use. I would recommend something in the range of idle-6000 especially if you want to drive daily.

Re: vortec 5.7 swap

agree. That is way too much intake.

I really like the LT4 hotcam in my vortec motor.

Are you aware of the lift limits on stock vortec heads? The guides should be milled down to accept higher lift cams. Plus the factory springs arent suitable to any cam upgrade.
