406 iroc build
hey guys im swapping out my carbed 305 t5 out of my 85 to swap in a 406sbc, specs are 2 bolt main 400 block bored .30 over, 5.7 rods, 11.1 compression, crank turned .10/.10, AFR heads, Vic Jr intake, Holley 750 dbl pumper, hooker shorties for now, comp cams xr274r solid roller cam.
i know about the starter bolt and flywheel counterweight thing, i believe i have those addressed.
my two questions now are the vic intake doesnt have any vacuum ports, i only have the one on the base of the carb, what do you suggest to do to run my vac advance and my power brakes--vacuum tree of that??
and right now i have an adjustable pushrod on order because i have no idea what length is needed for correct geometry, any guesses? pics as soon as i can get them on my pc

Re: 406 iroc build
Just drill a hole or 2 in the side of the plenum.
Your push rods are going to depend on what lifters you use. There's SO MANY different heights of solid roller lifters, it's impossible to predict.
Just make sure you DO NOT use Comps instructions for determining push rod length. They are WRONG. The correct indicator of correct push rod length, is NOT the location of the winess mark on the valve stem; in fact, it makes NOT THE SLIGHTEST DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER where on the stem the rocker lands. The correct indicator is THE NARROWEST POSSIBLE witness mark. That shows when the rocker's arc is CENTERED on the height of the valve. Find that, then order the next .050" increment shorter of push rod.

The Vic Jr is more intake than you could possibly need with that cam/engine. A Performer RPM would be quite good enough.

Re: 406 iroc build
well summit sent me the wrong size pushrod checker so i might just make my own in the mean time , threw in and 8.4" pushrod and checked my witness mark was about .050 and a little of center to the exhaust side of the stem

WHich AFR heads?
Vic jr is enough intake, but like said above, you can drill into that plenum for a large port and T off that for other accessories, or get a 1/2" spacer and drill/tap a few fittings into that.

Re: 406 iroc build
thier 195's, yeah i tapped the intake for a vacuum tree i had, got her to start today my carb needs alot of adjusting and need to take care of a couple vacuum leaks but happy to have it in and have most everything hooked up, what have you guys done with headers and your ac/powersteering brackets? getting my belts on and cleaning up the harness and hooking the torque arm and driveline is all i really have left

Unless you don't put any more power to it than a 305 can.
Might as well get something else in there before the T5 is worthless.

Re: 406 iroc build
figured i would bring this back to life, ive got corvette spyder wheels on the way along with new billet accessory brackets, new 4779 holley 750, new mini starter, dyno dons headers with dual cat y pipe, magnaflow round race mufflers, tires for the vette wheels, and an adjustable throttle bracket for holley 4150's, next week should be a busy week depending if the headers come in or not but got lots to do besides that, going to unloom the harness and roll back all the wires im not using, wire in my fan controller and delete my ac, ill post pics when the parts come in
