383 Swap - Computer/Tune Question

1992 RS Convertible, 305 TBI, Heritage Edition.

Ok, so I currently have a 383 Stroker being built by a guy in Arizona. I cant give you all the build specs as I don’t know what they are.

Basically my brother and his good friend (who is building the 383 stroker) are taking care of everything for me in regards to the mechanics of the build.

We are anticipating anything between 450HP-525HP at the crank depending on the fuel management system we go with.

This car is currently and will remain to be my daily driver. I will still have the AC, Sound system, Heater ect.

I am looking to use either a 4brl TBI set up or more than likely a MPFI set up (Holly Stealth Ram or something similar).

Here is my question, and of course this is after I have the fule management system installed.

Am I able to use the factory 305TBI ECM/Computer to have a custom chip/tune/programming to support 500+HP and run correctly?

Or

Will I need to pick up a new ECM with tune that will still support the wanted HP all the other electronics of this car?

Any input is appreciated.

Re: 383 Swap - Computer/Tune Question

if you stick with tbi, you may be able to run the car long enough to get tuning data. however, if you go with a different type of injection (such as mpfi), the tbi harness and computer will need to be pulled for the new setup.

there were some posting in the tpi section about a conversion that allowed you to use the LSx pcm & coil on plug setup on a sbc. that sounds like a great option to me that's very tunable and inexpensive compared to some of the aftermarket packages out there
