v6 efi to carbed 305 swap problem ( fuel)
v6 efi to carbed 305 swap problem ( fuel)
hi everyone having some problems with the fuel delivery part of the swap. doing it for a friend
all done, but im having delivery problems
i kept the old fuel pump in the tank and ordered the mallory regulator from the efi to carb swap thread.
when key is first put to key on the pump kicks on and supplys fuel, but thats it after that initial first pump, the pump dosnt run anymore.
fuel supply into reg, from reg to carb, bypass from the reg going to fuel return, vaccum line from carb to regulator
what can this be. and ideas will help im stumped

the pump is run from the ecm, and the oil pressure switch. the pump wont run unless it senses oil pressure since you no longer have the ecm running it. it should kick on after a few cranks and stay running.
Re: v6 efi to carbed 305 swap problem ( fuel)
if i unplugged the ecm i have no crank nor the initial first pump. so your saying i need to track down the oil pressure sender and connect that wire? what color off the ecm would be for the oil pressure?

it should already be connected up. if you unplug the ecm it wont crank because the start enable relay needs to be bypassed. its part of the VATS system. you can always run the pump relay trigger wire to a switched 12v source.

itll be the green wire. thats the one thats triggered by the ecm. tan should be getting the 12v out to pump and has a tan wire from the oil pressure switch spliced into it and also a tan wire the goes back to the ecm as a refence.

you want have the power run through the relay. applying 12v just to the tan wire will bypass the relay altogether.

yep, you just have to remember that that means the pump will run with the key on all the time.

you have to drop the tank, and remove the electric pump. and either put in a carb pickup, or mod the current one into a carb pickup like the sticky shows.

a fuel cell in a street driven vehicle is a dumb idea. youll have to custom fab everything from the mounts to the fuel lines. and itll probably cost around $500 minimum just for the cell.

drop the tank and pull the pump and mod the pickup. only other option is wire the pump to run and either use the mech pump as a regulator (if it has a return line) or ditch the mech pump and get a return style regulator.

my design for a custom cell would fit in the stock location. but a cell is kinda pointles it dosnt save much weight unless you use a 5 gal cell. if you want a sump buy the sump kit and get someone to weld it in.
on my personal car with my 406 i gutted the original eletric pump and hardlined it for the machanical pump. i hate eletrical lmaoo.
