Crate 350 Swap
My 83 z28 came stock with a 305 and the previous owner put in a 350 from an old Nova and it burns oil pretty bad. I found the engine I plan to replace it with on Jegs...

It is the best price I can find for a base 350 like this.
Does this crate engine come with any fuel system?
If not, how easy will it be to take the carb from my old one and put it on there?
Also is there any thing else you think I will need to buy (it looks like it comes with mounts)?
One more thing, I got a couple quotes from some garages and they are talking $1000 to take the old one out and about $1000 to put the new one in.. is this reasonable?
I Have a buddy who can do it (might take a little bit longer but I wont be driving it till spring anyway), what would be a good price to offer him when he has like 3 months to do it?

Re: Crate 350 Swap
NO ,
look at pic
Comes only as pictured ; just the bare engine .
(Called a long block because it has heads on it; no heads = short block )
You fit all the required parts inc carb /intake/mounts / starter /water pump / etc off your old engine
and it is a direct bolt in replacement
2K to swap a engine ; I would be looking for another shop

Re: Crate 350 Swap

A backyard mechanic could do the swap in a day using a chain block off a tree in the yard (with beers in between)
A shop with correct equipment in less time
Re: Crate 350 Swap
Buying that engine will be much better than a cranker from a JY and you get to hop it a little, too. Good choice. Most GM products from a small block 350 pretty much all bolt up to each other. The things you'll want to watch for are types of carbs and distributors for the ecm thingy under the dash. I have a ZZ3 crate engine and am pretty much forced into using a Q-jet on top.

Re: Crate 350 Swap
Appreciate the responses
Anybody have a complete list of things that can/will need to be transferred from the existing engine..

Re: Crate 350 Swap
A complete list? Sorry I can't remember that far back. But I did use the stock carb, distributor, air pump, some brackets, a/c, and probably some other stuff that I can't remember right now. Before you drop it in make sure any sensors or bolt-ons that are on the under side of the engine get bolted on first so your not busting knuckles later on.
