My last balance required a lot of metal to be removed from the crank. Took my balancer a day to get it balanced right down to zero on the planes. Still cost me $800. How much it costs depends on what work needs to be done.

$500.00-$800.00 to balance an engine is insane unless heavy metal needs to be installed.
You can balance pistons yourself with a gram scale, I used one at a friends body shop, weigh the pistons & mark each one's weight, then just make the 7 heavier pistons weigh the same as the lightest, its that simple. Anything within 1 gram is better than most shops will do.
Then take your parts to your favorite machine shop, shouldn't cost more than about $250.00, at least thats what it is around Sacranento CA.
