Re: Not for nothing-Heads
"For a big-block Chevy...there is virtually nothing you can do to improve on factory performance below 4,500 rpm so the OEs obviously got the port-sizing pretty close to optimum for the street." Baloney! Jim Feuling's stuff aside, there are the peanut-port heads. Since it's no trouble to get 445+ HP from a mild 454 with un-ported, small-valve peanut-ports, they shouldn't be tossed by most of the guys who toss them. "When you get to that oddball engine that requires you to actually modify an OE cast head, remember, your biggest gains will result from unshrouding the valves in the combustion chamber, porting the bowl area under the valve and doing a good three-angle valve job." Depends. Unshrouding costs compression, risks hitting water, and usually isn't going to gain much. 3-angle valve jobs byu themselves are nothing but a necessity to keep the seat the proper width in the proper place. It's the next 2 angles that find the flow, whether the seat angle is 45 degrees, or 30.

The part about a 375 horse 396 cam in a 325 horse engine outrunning 375 horse factory engines is a bit unfortunate, considering all of the "2.02 heads" posts we get here. 90% of the time they're 882 heads.
But, as they say, it's all in your head...

Or is the other way around??.He's on there and your not??.

From the very short time I have been on this forum I know you as someone who is augmentative, always ruining threads, and can't seem to post civil topics. If you can handle the truth.
But I am going to disappoint you this time.No argument.
All I am saying guys is Engine Builder is a publication dedicated to professional engine building shops and manufactures. It is surely a inside look at the industry and the result of yrs of R & D.You can use that link for solid info and monthly info or if you will, choose not to.Certainly it is miles away from the comic book articles found in Hot Rod,Popular Hot Rodding and alike.
Just a FYI:www.Thedieselgarage.com
Is more closely align to this quoted poster than Thirdgen.
