383 stroker what do you think?

I have a 88 iroc with a 350 tpi and been looking in to either rebuilding the engine I have or getting a new one I would like to try to keep it at around 4k for the engine and 1k for the new exhaust I wanted to keep the tpi bc of the torque it gaves but I have been looking online and I found this engine http://www.tristarengines.com/catalo...num-heads.html would this engine bolt up in my 88 iroc? what would I need to have done to my car to have this engine work? and what do you think of the engine does it look like a good deal like it would get the numbers it claims? How much hp would I get to the wheeles? all I want it around 325hp ish or more
thanks for reading !!

Re: 383 stroker what do you think?

To answer your questions:
Yes, it will bolt into your IROC. It's said you can spec whatever block style you want so you can choose the late model 1 pc RMS version. They don't list a flexplate as part of the package so you'll have to source that part separately.
$4000 for a turnkey engine isn't a bad I suppose and yes, it could get the numbers it claims but YOU probably won't. Engine dyno numbers are typically produced under ideal conditions, which are very difficult to duplicate in the chassis of your car. Dyno spec headers and an electric water pump with no other accessory drives tend to inflate the numbers QUITE a bit.
Use 20% (+/-) as a drive train loss factor and you get 340 rear wheel hp.
Those are the answers to your questions as I see them. Now a few things to consider. First, this is a carbed engine. You have a bit of work to do to convert your EFI engine to a carb. There are as many ways to go about this as there are people you'll answer this post so you'll have to decide on how to go about it.
Second, it’s a flat tappet cam. Personally I wouldn't go near it but that's just me (and probably quite a few others). I'd fork out the coin for the roller upgrade but there are no details given on the cam. You'll have to investigate that.
Third, there are no specs given on the heads so that makes me wary from the start.
Fourth, the cast steel crank, "HP" rods and hypereutectic pistons will limit you to what you've stated as your goal but beyond that you're on your own.
Lets see who else has what to say.
Incidentally, thanks for the link to Tri-Star. I'm going to check them out myself to see what their forged offerings are like on a comparative basis. I'm researching a 383 build however my target is a bit beyond the engine in question. I've built the cast/OEM shortblock already and need to step up some.
Good luck.

I don't think you can go wrong moving up to the LS platform.
I'm learning that there's a sizeable investment in all the supporting parts although it costs less to do an LS swap than it used to. Lots of information here about it too.
Good luck.
