V6 to V8 Question

V6 to V8 Question
I recently blew a bearing in my 2.8l (only 100k miles on it, idk what happened) and I was thinking about just putting a v8 in it. I was wondering what I should be looking for to replace it when they tell me they dont have any third gen donor cars and if all 700 r4's will fit into third gens without an adaptor to mount it.

Re: V6 to V8 Question
All the '82-'84 2.8s had oiling problems, usually resulting in broken crankshafts. Try to get a 350 from a '96-'00 350, second choice is a '350 from any '87-'95, but not the '87-'95 350 heads. Those 350s should have dished pistons, so you can use some casting number '416 heads, which are really common. Any '88-'93 V8-spec 700R-4 will work, if you use the third-gen F-car tailshaft housing, which can also come off the V6 versions as well.

Re: V6 to V8 Question
Thank You! I really appreciate the information. Is it hard to change the housing, or would it be better to just make sure i get one a v8 one with the housing?(I dont know much about transmissions.)

Remove the speedometer drive from the tailshaft housing, remove four bolts from the tailshaft housing, slide tailshaft housing off of transmission case. Repeat on other transmission, reverse order to install the correct housing on the V8 transmission.

Re: V6 to V8 Question
You need a V8 Transmission, due to the bellhousing difference, what he was saying is that you can get one from a non camaro/firebird, and install the rear tailshaft housing from yours because of the torque arm mount on the back of the transmission.
