1984 Camaro z28

Thinking about doing a swap on my 84 z28 305 with a tpi 350 border over .040..I'm new to this so just wanted to know if that's a good swap?.. and I have a t56 tranny but I think I should leave it automatic is that a good choice?

A 350 is always good. Are you going from carb to tpi? The carb would be easiest.

What will you be using the car for? The stock tpi is limited. To make good power you may need an aftermarket lower manifold and runners. Also tuning capabilities.

If the car is crabed now I would swap in a carbed 350 then. TPI is cool, but if I did not already have it I would not go an put it into my car-noth worth the time and money.

Re: 1984 Camaro z28

A 350 bored .040 over doesn't mean much to me. Could easily be making less power than the stock L69 305 did. What are you going to run for internals? That's what it comes down to... The 700r4 is a fine transmission, but a t56 will yield better gas mileage and be a heck of a lot more fun to drive. Stick with a carb or go aftermarket Efi. TPI isn't worth the headache IMO. Cons outweigh pros for me there. Did a TPI swap on a friends car, and what little gains he got in drivability he lost big in high end power.
