My 383 stroker
I have started the process of assembling my 383 stroker for my 1989 Trans Am. Over the past 2 years, I have begun collecting pieces, including the remanufactured block from Summit Racing, and a complete Scat rotating assembly. What I am looking for is for someone to act as a "personal advisor". Someone who is willing to work with me and answer any questions I may have along the way as I continue to purchase parts. I understand there is a TON of information on these forums, and I have read much of it, but it is always more useful to have your own personal communication with someone who can answer your specific questions for your specific build, as no 2 builds are exactly the same. I would greatly appreciate anyone who would be willing to help out. I will start by posting details of what I have to this point if anyone is interested in assisting.

Re: My 383 stroker
Absolutely guys, I understand prioritization. There certainly is no rush on this project, being a broke college kid, I have to wait for the cash flow anyways.
Ok, now to get with the parts I have purchased at this point. I decided to use one of the Summit Racing re-manufactured block that has already been machined and clearanced for a 383 stroker build. I had read some good things about this block and chose to go this route instead of finding a junkyard 350 and taking that to the machine shop.
For the rotating assembly, I purchased a Scat setup, part #1-91205, again through Summit Racing. It has the Series 9000 cast crank (since I don't plan on boosting at this stage), forged pistons and I-beam rods. The pistons are a flat-top design with 2 valve reliefs, and +4.00 cc head volume.
These are the parts that I have so far. When I purchased these, I had the intention of getting some AFR aluminum cylinder heads. However, at this point I was thinking of going the Vortec route to save some $$ but still attain good bang for the buck (according to what I have read). If I go the Vortec route, would these pistons create too high of a compression ratio? Also, there are so many options with Vortec cylinder heads, any guidance on a route to choose would be greatly appreciated. I know they require some special machining to accept a higher lift cam. Also, any comments are welcomed on the parts I have purchased to this point.

Re: My 383 stroker
Sounds like a plan, there are some good compression calculators online, check out your piston and head combos on them. Summit has one, and wallace racing have a whole bunch of useful calculators.
