85 Z28 with carb to Vortec

I have an 85 z28 with a cracked 350 block. It has a 4 barrel edelbrock carb and intake on now with manual fuel pump. I have a mid 90's complete vortec 350 with all wiring still attached. I would like to put this motor in. I am thinking that I will buy an intake and use the 4 barrel, keeping the vortec heads. Or, how hard is it to make the computer and fusebox work with the existing fusebox and keep all the TbI? I will be mating it to a th350 tranny. I assume I will use the vortek flywheel? Also since I am mating it to that tranny, can I even use the tbi stuff, or do I need to take it off because the 350 tranny will not shift electronically like the vortek one?

thanks in advance

Mike

Exactly what year is the truck this is coming out of? "Vortec" is '96-'99.

'90-'95 truck 350 is LO5 - TBI, swirlport heads. NOT "Vortec".

This swap is for a friend of mine. I told him to post his question on this site because I believe you could help him. This engine with tranny and harness was sitting in his dads garage . However on top of the TBI it says vortec. We are hoping it will bolt up to his 350 turbo with the flex plate and starter from vortec engine with swapping out intake.

Re: 85 Z28 with carb to Vortec

Everything GM puts in trucks says "Vortec". Doesn't really identify the motor very well.

Does it have a TBI, or is it the later CPFI?

Count the bolts holding the intake onto the heads.
12 bolts ; reg SBC heads
8 bolts (4 per side ) ; Vortec heads

If it is a Vortec then the block will fit up just like any other SBC will

It has 2 on each corner. Bolts are straight down not slanted

Okay, so it is the "real" Vortec heads.

The injection system isn't called "TBI", because it has injectors for each port. Therefore, "CPFI", as stated. Also called "spider" injection.

Your better choice, in my opinion, is to get a "Vortec" spreadbore intake manifold and put the '85 carb/ignition/sensors on the Vortec longblock. Way, way easier.

Why the TH350?
