350 install questions.

I just bought a 92 Camaro RS that was 4 speed auto but came with no motor or trans but I have a 360 with Turbo 350 trans to go in it but my question is what do I need to do about the VATS thing? Also will my speedo still work right and will the ECU need to be changed? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thx all!

The ECM runs the engine, in-tank electric fuel pump, torque converter clutch lock-up, and cruise control.

If you aren't putting EFI back on the 350, then the engine part is moot.

You can rig the fuel pump relay to work without the ECM. Or, remove the in-tank electric pump and use an engine-mounted mechanical pump.

The TH350 probably doesn't have a TCC (unless it's a TH350C, which isn't likely).

Do you want to have functioning cruise control?

Most likely you won't need the ECM at all. Changing it won't fix anything, unless you use an EFI system other than factory TBI.

The auto transmission that came in the car had an electronic vehicle speed sensor in the tailshaft housing that feeds the speedometer. The TH350 used a cable drive for the speedometer. You'll need to get a transducer that goes on the cable drive output to produce an electronic VSS. Why not just use the TH700? (You'll have other issues if you use the TH350. You'll have a couple of issues using the TH700 without EFI, but those are relatively minor in comparison.)

VATS: Go to the thirdgen.org homepage, look in the left margin for the "Technical Articles" link. There are a couple under "Electrical" about VATS.

Re: 350 install questions.

Well if it helps the car had a 406ci in it. Not sure of trans.

Re: 350 install questions.

Okay, I mis-read your original post. I assumed the original tranny (which would have been a TH700R-4) was still in the car.

So, to install the TH350, you'll need to modify or buy an aftermarket tranny swap crossmember, fabricate or buy an aftermarket torque arm mount (you can kill two birds with one stone by getting an aftermarket tranny swap crossmember with torque arm mount), and do the VSS transducer thing (something like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/izl-s9013/overview/ ).
