Heads and cam are small GM Vortecs and Comp cams 268 XE flat tappet cam in a 406 sbc. Comp is 9.6 to 1.Looking to upgrade to AFR 190 Vortecs and 274 XE cam. This is in a full option 86 T/A. The car runs 12.8 @ 109 mph with a 2200 converter and 3.73 gears. Would this combo drop the times into low 12,s, possibly high 11,s? With the GM heads and 268 cam the motor is maxed out at 5000 rpm. I would like to bump that up to about 5500 rpm. The car is mostly street driven with occasional track time. Thanks for any advice.

 

Consider large port bowtie vortecs. But those afr heads with bigger cam could get you low 12's. your low stall is killing the times now. 109 mph is good for 12.5's. needs 3200-3400 ish stall.
