Got a 69 chevy 327 Need advice on build
So far it is a 327 with a cam 480 lift not sure of the exact specs. I didn't build it. The block is bored 030 over and the trans is a 700r with a 2500 stall. I don't feel like I'm getting the right power out of it.

Re: Got a 69 impala. Need advice on build
Well this will get locked since it's not a third gen, you should have left the impala part out. Anyway, how do you know for sure the cam is 480 lift if you don't know any other specs? If your listening solely to the previous owner, take what they said with a grain of salt unless there is some kind of documentation. It could be the motor is bone stock or full of mismatched parts that is giving you a low power output.

Ok. The owners cousin pretty much has a shop in his basement. He races funny cars and rails. The 327 is the original numbers matching motor. The owner and I pulled it out of the car. We took it to him, he did the work in a few days. When we got the engine back he told us he shaved the heads. Didn't do.any valve work. Bored the.block 30 over because there was 3 cracked positions in it. There is a double roller timing chain. Weiand intake and edelbrock 650 carb. Accell distributor. Also just did the rear end. Installed.a locker with 3.73 gears

All I'm looking for is some advice on what to do. I understand that the way things was done is not right. That's why I'm here. I was always taught the only dumb question is the question you didn't ask

Start with a compression test, if you have a cylinder leak-down tester that would be better yet. You need to start somewhere and either of these test will show where your at since no valve work was performed.....

Motor runs great. I just don't think I'm getting the full.power out of it. It sounds great but to me it should be better. It barely wants to burn rubber. So I know something is wrong. With all that has been done you would think you can melt the tires right. And a compression test has been done. All of them hold good compression and none leak down now. I'm go try and get a hold of the engine builder to find out what the cam.specs are. Any suggestions on cylinder heads. Or anything else I need to be checking. I'm trying to lay the whole build out from bumper to bumper.

Sell it and get a running 96 up vortec 350 truck motor, put in a nice cam and some springs.
Then enjoy.

You can. Swap the heads, in stall a roller cam (if you can), tune it.

Before GM produced the 350, the 327 was the way to go. Dollar for dollar, you'll make more power with a 350 than a 327.
Numbers matching means nothing unless it's in the car that the numbers match.
A 327 in a third gen is a waste of money. It belongs in a more traditional vehicle like a Nova or Chevy II.

Everytime I hear the "don't feel strong enough, and barely wants to burn rubber" comments... I go straight to tuning side of things.
Even a stock 327 would lay down 50 feet or more of rubber...
Check and set your timing.. You will want/need something in the 14-18* BTDC range at idle w/o vac advance hooked up.
With the correct build you can get 400 HP out of a 327.
Do a compression test. It's easy to over cam a 327 and kill off your cylinder pressure.
