Belt coming off

Hey, not sure if this is where it should be posted but I just got my 383 stroker in my Iroc and it runs good and everything. However, when I take it out for a small trip just even around the block, if I pull it back in the driveway and **** it off. My belt slips off of my condenser unit. It doesn't seem to do this while running or sitting still and shutting it off, but when I come back in the driveway after the trip the belt comes about halfway off of my condenser. The timing is a bit off it seems based on that it tries to keep blubbing on a few times after shutting off the ignition, but the belt slipping seems like it could cause a HUGE problem especially if it comes off during say a longer trip. Any thoughts?

My guess;

When a engine "diesels" it's try'n to run backwards, this can cause the belt to run in reverse rotation loosening the tension idler pulley causing the belt to walk off.

Get the timing set right so it doesn't "diesel" and see if that solves your problem......

Re: Belt coming off

"Dieseling" is not the engine trying to run backwards. It is a run-on condition where the engine continues to fire without an ignition source (most often a combination of poor timing and increased combustion chamber temperatures.) The inertia developed by the rotating assembly does not allow an engine to suddenly attempt to run backwards without first coming to a complete stop.
