350 carbureted to 305 tpi
350 carbureted to 305 tpi
Lookin 4 some help! Im new to this, first real big swap. Have a 350 carbureted motor with a rod knock, lookin to swap it with a 305 tpi. The 305 was supposed to be a 350, but got the wrong motor. So, could i just interchange the intake manifold up with the parts off the 350 onto the 305, to make the 305 carbureted?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The answer depends upon the year of the 350 and the year of the 305. '87-up for each had the center two intake manifold bolts on each side at 72 degrees, the rest at 90 degrees. '86-earlier had all at 90 degrees.
Odds are your 305 is '87-up and 350 '86-earlier, so you may have to get a different intake manifold. The intake manifold can be modified to fit, but if this is your first dance, you might not want to tackle that.

Re: 350 carbureted to 305 tpi
Thanks 4 the reply. Your right on the years of the engines, different bolt patterns. How would i modify it? I could probably do that if i have an idea what to do. Im a machinist/welder by trade, so i have a ggod handle on bolt patterns, tapping, machining, threading, etc.

Ream/elongate those center two holes on each side to 72 degrees to match the bolt holes in the head. If you do it "right", you'll face the top of the hole perpendicular to the new hole angle for a flat surface for the head of the bolt. I would be sure to use flat washers on those bolts.

Yep.
Haven't looked recently, but some aftermarket intakes came with bolt holes and wedge washers to accommodate either head type.
