350 Engine Swap pulley advice

Hello all,

I'm currently building and will be swapping into my 1991 RS a 350 engine. The current engine is a 305 TBI, I'm looking for a bit more performance, but nothing ground breaking as it's stock trans and stock 10 bolt rear.

Anyway, my question revolves around the pulley set up. My 1991 TBI has the big serp belt setup, which is nice. But I'd rather ditch the bit ally castings and dummy pulleys and just run an alternator, water pump and power steering pump. The issue is the Power Steering pump.

My car being 1991, I believe all the fittings to be metric, the pulley nose is also going to be a press fit. Now I'm looking at getting an aftermarket set of pulleys and running those, the only issue is most, if not all, cater for the imperial and key way shaft power steering pumps.

I'm just curious as to what others have done?

To give you some idea, I fancy running the March Performance mini serpentine belt setup, for this though I would need to run an older power steering pump for the pulley to fit, but then the hydraulic connection fittings wouldn't match. How have people got around this?

Re: 350 Engine Swap pulley advice

All of the '84 up power steering puts in third gens uses the metric lines. 83 may too, but I know 82 is imperial.

You can also swap the fitting bung around as well. If you look at your power steering pump where the line screws in... You will see a much larger hex nut against the body of the pump.. You can remove that and screw in Metric or imperial fitting...
The outside threads on that fitting are the same, even as far back as 1970 (I'm using a 1970 monte carlo PS pump on my 1988), the inside threads on that fitting can be mertic or imperial.. Like I said before 1984 and up should all be metric.
