Hello Chevy lovers!

I have a few questions about an engine swap that was done on my car about 8 years ago. I went from the factory 305 tbi to a 350 tbi out of an 87 vette. First question is about a mini starter. I just purchased one and even with it shimmed the teeth engage too much of the flywheel. What can I do about that? 2nd, when I order parts for the motor such as water pump, radiator etc...should I order by vehicle type, or should I be using the 1987 vette specs when Im at places like autozone, Napa, summit etc? Thanks. Engine is in a 1989 caprice classic.

Re: 305 TBI to 350 TBI (87 corvette)
The 88-92 V8 F-body front engine accessory drive was largely the same as the 88-93 Caprice. It would be logical for those parts to have been kept and used on your replacement engine. I attached a picture of these accessories from an early 90s Chevrolet.

All small blocks are drilled for a big flywheel starter pattern. In the 80s, all the small blocks were also drilled for the small flywheel starter bolt pattern. If your flywheel is 153 tooth / 12 & 3/4", the starter will have 2 bolts of different length, perpendicular to the crank. If it's 168 / 14", the starter will have 2 equal length bolts in a diagonal bolt pattern.

Lacking pictures or other info about what you bought for a starter, I'll just say the LT1 mini-starter is a good option for the 153t wheel, and the truck stater from approximately 1997 is a good option for the 168t wheel.

Thanks for the input, I did use the same parts from the front, but bought a new flywheel since the old one was cracked.

Here is the link to the starter that I bought with a detailed description
