I did pros and cons, settled on a Vortec 350, and yet I can't stop wanting the mighty Rat. The '96-'00 Vortec 7400 heads are the only way I'll try it, on a '91-'95 bottom-end.
The only cam I like is a Comp HR 212/218-110, and I have an old, used Torker 2 somewhere. I'm not shelling out for Hooker's long-tubes, so the best I can hope for is Patriot "mid-length" shorties.
I'd guess maybe 375 HP at 4900 RPM, but is that realistic? Would it be closer to 350? Or closer to 400?

Re: 454 questions, perf, not how to swap.

I finally got one, feel free to check my build thread in Members' Camaros for pics tomorrow, my 4.6 swap thread for the back-story on getting this engine,
I can't find my old Torker 2-O, I'm considering trying Summit's cheap Chinese dual-plane for now, and I have a few other cams in mind. I think I ruled out a Thumper, I will be trying a Comp HR, I'm leaning more toward the 212/218-110 , because to me off-idle torque is the whole entire point and main advantage of big displacement. I want both rear tires to boil at half throttle in first gear with a responsive torque converter, no looser than a 2000-stall.
But I secondarily want it to not feel out of breath before 5000 RPM, so there's the 218/224-110, which would give the meaner idle, or the marine 218/224-112, which should give the best top-end.
I've posted about trying Hedman shorties, but after much research I'm planning Patriot H8012s, bare.
The GM oil pan kit is up over $200, and my welding has improved, so I'm likely to modify the '99 C3500 pan.
I'll be bolting it to a 700R-4, I have a 2.73:1 rear for the stock '99 cam, but I'm thinking probably the 3.23:1 28-spline axle out of my '94 Camaro, with a Gov-Lock I got from a '99 S-Blazer.

Re: 454 questions, perf, not how to swap.

Now that I'm finally earning good money, my first purchase is an Edelbrock C66-O.
I haven't yet disassembled my own heads, but from Google images it seems they desperately need a lot of help in the exhaust ports, so i will be grinding.
Probably going with a Comp marine HR 218-224 112 510/510 cam and Patriot shorties.
Pics are in my build thread in the Members' Camaros sub-forum.
