1988 Trans-Am TPI 305 - L31
Hi guys, I looked around for an L98 recently to replace the 140,000 mile, water using 305 with no luck. Now I see a lot of guys are going with the L31. It seems reasonable at around 2 grand shipped, but I would appreciate some opinions on it. Plan would be to keep the TPI for it. I know I would have to get an intake to mate the TPI to the Vortec heads and also change the injectors and a few other parts. I'm not looking for a 12 second car, just something that will get out of it's own way. Thanks for any opinions, Ron.

It will definitely get out of its own way with the L31 plugged in especially if you put a lil more cam in it.

Thanks for the suggestion, any cams in mind. I'll be limited because I don't plan on putting headers on, it does have a 3'' exhaust however. Ron

Look at a Herberts Cams CCH216. 215int 220exh 465Lift 114 Lobe center or the CCH225 which is 210int 215 exh 450 int 465 exh on a 110 Lobe center. Either cam should work fine with stock lift limitations of a Vortec head and would be perfect for a TPI that isn't going to rev much over 5500 RPMS anyhow.

Thanks, those are pretty healthy cams. About the same specs as the 327/350 non-roller cam I have in the '68, should give a little lump. Ron
