350 TPI Build - $1000 Budget
Engine is my 1987 350 TPI all stock.
I have been searching the forums and lots of great info on the 350 Engines.
But I havent seen a post similair to asking my question.
If I set a $1000 budget what simple, reliable mods/rebuild can I do to the engine?
I will be getting Headers which is not part of this cost. I will try to pick up the parts over the Winter and do it in the Spring.
I am only thinking of doing this because I want to pull the engine to replace a back oil seal and clean the engine up a bit. So may as well do a little modding while the Engine is out.
EDIT: I put this in the wrong forum. Mods can delete it as I will post in the general section.

Re: 350 TPI Build - $1000 Budget
Stock the biggest gains would be make sure everything is tuned up and in good working order. Fresh oil, spark plugs, ignition system ect.
Performance wise exhaust and free intake mods would be great. Headers, y-pipe, cat-back exhaust. Quality headers (like those from Hooker) will really wake up your car.
For the intake, cut out all the baffles below the air box. Also cut out the plastic below where the air filters sit. You can run duct work from behind the fog lights and attach it to the bottom of the filter box to make a ram air set up.
Another mod would be to swap in an S10 torque converter. Stock stall for f-bodies is around 1500rpm-1600rpm. Stock S10 converter is around 2000rpm-2200rpm. Will help with off the line performance to keep the motor in the power band while you accelerate.
