Cam and head question for a swap

I have an L03 in a 91 Bird that I'm looking to swap with a 350 4 bolt that I already have. I want to put in a cam that will work with the computer(will have custom chip). and the stock converter. I was thinking about the Comps Xreteme Energy cam. Anyone know about these cams and if they will work with computer controlled engines. Will be using TBI. I know that Comp makes compucams but I really like the grind of the Xtreme. 210/218 .462/.469 I think. Any help or suggestions would be great. Question two. I also will be using Vortec heads. I went to a local machine shop to price a port and polish for them. He told me that the Vortecs were about as open as they could get and couldn't do anything with them. Does anyone know otherwise?

I'm assuming you have a late 350 one piece rear main seal block. If so, why not step up to a hyd. roller setup? Better performance and you don't have to worry about a lobe going flat. Check out the specs and price of the ZZ4 cam.

ZZ4 ROLLER CAM, with f.p. lobe, Duration @ .050" 208/221, Lift .474"/.510", Lobe sep. 112' - $125 OR

ROLLER CAM, SB, no f.p. lobe, Duration @ .050" 208/221, Lift .474"/.510", Lobe sep. 109' -$ 80

Something like this should work well for your car. Or the Hot Cam for the 350.

Same as P/N 24502586 except it includes alum. rockers, valve springs and retainers.

This off-highway camshaft kit has the major valve train component to convert production LT1 engine for showroom stock racing, or hop up your small block Chevrolet V8 that was originally equipped with a roller tappet camshaft. The 1.6 roller rockers, light weight valve spring caps, special designed valve springs and hot camshaft offers a significant gain in horsepower at a reasonable price. This kit includes the following items: one camshaft P/N 24502586, 16 roller rocker arms kit P/N 12370839, 16 valve springs P/N 12551483, 16 valve caps P/N 10212808, 16 valve keys P/N 24503856, 16 valve spring shims P/N 10212809.

Either of these will work great with the Vortec heads. BUT, you will have to have the tops of the guides cut down for clearance with the retainer. Also, either pin the studs or have the pressed in studs pulled and put in screw in studs. As far as porting the Vortecs, they flow better than any of the old "fuelie or double hump" heads right out of the box.

AFR has probably the best heads out there, but they're about $1250+ for CNC ported ones. You do get what you pay for!

Hope this helps,

Scott
