83 camaro power steering brackets
Hi everyone, i have a 83 sport coupe that was originally a 2.8 and I swapped it to a v8. I don't have any of the old brackets as I tore it apart when I was young and dumb. I'm running headers on it and I was wondering what the solution for power steering brackets may be. I found some brackets of a 86 that had the serp/v belt setup (I have the v belt setup originally on it) the brackets don't seem to want to work with the headers and it's driving me nuts. It there a bracket kit out there? The engine is originally from a 77 camaro if that makes any difference. Thanks for reading.

Re: 83 camaro power steering brackets
V-belt vs V/Serp the power steering pump doesn't care, they're the same. The serp part of the drive only runs the alternator and waterpump, the A/C, PS, Smog, are still the same old V-belt stuff.
The stock exhaust manifolds for a V8 thirdgen are thicker than the flanges on headers. So you need a spacer under the front bolt that the PS bracket mounts to. You may need additional pieces if the brackets are from a car with A/C and aren't using A/C because the two brackets function together on A/C cars.

Re: 83 camaro power steering brackets
My car is originally a non a.c. car. The one I took the brackets from was an a.c. car, I took the a.c. brackets too just in case. Looking around online it almost looks like there's a different bracket on my actual pump compared to the ones I see on factory v8 setups. Is there a difference in the v6 vs v8 pumps?

Hey Drew, the PS pressure hoses are different too (between belt cars and Serpentine cars) If you swap from a belt motor to a serp set up can you (should you) use the 82-87 hose(s) or do you need to replace them with 88-92 Hoses?

I'm not sure what the difference is between the two. I'd expect the 88-up hose has the hard line segments bent differently to clear the mounting brackets. If the early hose will clear, and is in good shape, might as well run it.
The later hose is cheap enough, there's not much reason to fight with the early hose if it doesn't fit right.

Thanks Drew.
I had to cut the stock hose to get the old PS pump out... and it was shot too... The older hose snakes up the PS box. The newer style is more of a straight in. The connector at the pump looks to be the same.
I bought an older one. I will post photos after I get the new motor in the car.
