I’m looking at replacing my 1988 A4U 305 TPI (Stock, 187,000km). I have a line on 2 1987 engines for free. I’m only looking to keep the original engine and drop in a refreshed engine. First attempt at a swap on my won and I know the 1987 belt runs different. Can I pull the pulleys off the 1988 and install on the 1987 so I have the same routing? Anything else I need to look at before the swap to an older model? Thanks guys.

use the pulleys, water pump, etc all off your 88. They will bolt on the 87 with no problem.
Awesome! Thanks for the response aliceempire. No more excuses now I guess but get going...

Question, are the replacement engines going to be 305 as well or are they 350.
Hi MY87LT. I'll be replacing with a 305TPI. It's more original to the car and between the 2 engines (1 complete w rebuilt heads and 1 missing ex manifold and throttle body) I'm only down $300 so it made sense. And I've never attempted a swap of any sort other than my CT70 lol... So I'm keeping it simple.

Sounds like you have it all under control. Good luck on your swap and keep us posted with pictures if possible.
Lol ... Sure, now I actually have to follow through :roll eyes: You bet! I am hoping Xmas holidays will allow me the timeframe to get going.
