My friend needs a new motor for his '85 V8 tpi car and found a '91 'bird with an L98 that got wrecked in the rear but runs fine.

Are there any other issues other than some wiring that he might encounter?

What needs to be changed to run the '91 motor in the '85?

swap the ecm too rather than try to make it work with the 85. the 91 is a lot better

 

But isn't one computer for Mass Air and the other Speed Density?

I was under the impression that swapping the computers would necessitate swapping the harness as well. Is that not true?

 

I think on the 85 you would need to swap the harness. If at all possible, I would definitely ditch the 85 electronics for the 91 stuff.

 

yea swap out the 870 (1985) ECM for the speed density ecm and the wiring the SD stuff is better
