Mismatched heads too

 

I ordered a Chevy 350 long block crate engine. It has an Edelbrock intake, carb, and air cleaner. Now I have to deal with mechanic fraud, and hire an attorney.

 

G code head on passenger side

L code on the driver side. I suspect the 305 heads from original engine were used too.

 

I don't know older stuff like that well, but did you look at the casting numbers? The heads aren't necessarily the same on the ends

 

I haven't removed the heads yet, but the serial # is M09121VP...the last 1 can be an I too IVP. IVP code means it's a Goodwrench engine. It comes back as a 1981 TargetMaster. My wife loves to decipher cowl tags and VIN info. Made in Mexico. It's frustrating since this car is an early build...on my birthday too. It all matches, except the engine. Still running original transmission.

 

Just need to pull the valve covers to look at the casting numbers on the neads

 

My Dad bought an old coupe with a "crate engine" that was smoking and getting a bit tired. Ran decent actually but when tore down the dang thing had a 58cc head on one side and a 76cc head on the other. PO swore up and down it came from Autozone as a crate engine.

 

Mine has the worst case of blow by ever. If the pistons aren't fitting the cylinder properly, that would explain that. Not everything going into combustion chamber is burned. You can stick your finger in tailpipe and get fresh oil on fingers. I'm expecting broken piston rings, and cylinder walls scratched. It has a bad exhaust leak. The car shakes VIOLENTLY down passenger side when running. I would rather have center bolt valve covers. The offset always leak between middle screws. The leak sounds like a lifter knocking. Mismatched heads will work, but the ports have to match.

This was supposed to be a new or freshly rebuilt engine and not a used one?
