Best and Cheapest engine combo
Best and Cheapest engine combo
Im brand new to F-bodies all my experience is with C3 (69-78) Corvettes which don't have computers. I just purchased an 88 IROC Z28 for peanuts. The engine is blown, heads and intake are gone and previous owner scavanged the 700R4. What drive would you all put in to keep the total spend on the car under $3,000? Car was $800 + misc parts $500 + Maaco paint job $500 leaving about $1,200.

Pair with a reman 700R4.
*edit* just noticed you say intake and all that is gone. Do you still have the computer and engine management wiring ?
Also your budget for engine AND transmission is 1,200 ? Start walking salvage yards or looking for stuff abandoned on the side of the road.

Re: Best and Cheapest engine combo
There is an 85 at my local junk yard. engine and Tranny $600. but who knows I found a local guy with a running 305 TPI for $400 or Hawks has some for the $1,200 to $1,500 range. I plan on completely eliminating engine management and carbing whatever I get. I old I know Qjets I'm dont care to learn Fuel injection. LOL

Might be worth it to grab that TPI 305 and sell the fuel injection stuff here on the forum. The money you make back would go a long way towards intake, distributor and stuff you need to get it converted to carb.
