Trying for 9s possibly 8s in the 1/8th
The current stock engine in my Trans Am is soooo slow. I purchased a 350 010 block this summer and plan to build it this winter. My overall plan is to go from running 10.25 to low 9s possibly 8s if possible. I don't want to overhaul the stock 700R4, I don't want to put a ton of money into the rear end. What power limits should I go to without burning stuff up? I was maybe shooting for 350 hp with heads, cam, intake, headers and a carb. Maybe more with nitrous. Does anyone know what I should do to achieve this goal?

9 sec 1/8th mile is like a 14 sec 1/4mi car. 350 hp isn't needed depending on weight and gear. 300 is closer. Small roller cam, GOOD exhaust, even stock heads will get you there. Starting from scratch with just a block (a flat tappet, ancient block, even worse.) is a long up hill battle. A good vortec or a warmed up L98 can get your goal. I wouldn't recommend going to a carb but to each there own. Costs money to go faster, halfa$$ it and you get fulla$$ed results.
If it were that early 700r4 wouldn't be happy. I'm not super knowledgeable on upgrading automatics but even your goal might at least need a shift kit or shift point change.
