hood clearance
hood clearance
Hey, i'm new at this but thought someone could help me out. I'm looking to put a crate ZZ 502 big block into my 88' camaro and need to know if the stock hood would clear the engine. If not, what type of clearance do i need? Would one of those new ram air 2 hoods make the cut? Thanks!

Welcome to the boards! From what i have read on this site, a big block would need a hood scoop that would give about 4" more clearence. There is a guy on here called Qwik Trip and I believe he used to (or still does ) have a big block in his car without a hood.

QwikTrip is still around, he'll be along shortly.
A ZZ502 will fit in the car, and depending on the induction/aircleaner you use will fit under the stock hood. I'm not familliar with what the ZZ uses for induction so I can't give a yes or no answer, sorry. I'll leave that to the people who have better knowledge in that department.

Thats the motor that I want to use too, but I want to have a roots style blower on the top with a hole cut through the stock hood for the scoop
