getting ready to start putting together a 5.7 to swap into my LG4 TA(86)
so this is for a recent project i picked up. its got n LG4 and i am basicly getting sick of the lack of performance so i figured with my tax check..........well u get the idea........
so n e way with the short block do i want dished or flat top pistons? WHat are 4 valve reliefs and do i need them? the idea of a roots type blower isnt that far off for the future(they are so damn cheap) so keep that im mind please. I will be running forged internals. now with the heads, whats the deal with these 23 degree heads? is that something to be considered? what would be the best head for a set up like this(not like u guys have much of an idea of my set up becouse i dont
) basicly ill run a streetable 350. around mid 13s on the motor with a 2200 stall. I o have a 9 bolt posi but friggin GM stuck me with those 2.77 gears, will mid 13 be possible with a gear like that? i was hoping the stall would make up some of the off the line crappiness due to the gears. Please guys keep this one up for a few days. i want to get things strait. I was also thinking of getting a crate short block but who knos, i am all over the place right now. thanx guys...

Hmmmm, nobody took you up on this.
The decision on the roots has to be made up-front. You can make a streetable mid-13's motor w/o huffin'; but not the same motor mid-13's before the huffer, then add it later.
Basically, you need to keep compression down with a blown engine, but want to have the compression up to make power w/o the blower. So, which way do you want it?
4 relief pistons can be used in either bank. With just 2 reliefs, you have to have one type for the left bank and another for the right. Dished don't need reliefs (generally).
The factory crate shortblocks don't lend themselves well to use with a blower because they don't have forged pistons (although someone is bound to say "I've done it!"). If you're talking crate shortblock from someone else, specify forged pistons.
I'll let someone else address your specific head question.
I thought better gears were available for 9-bolts for a price, but I don't think I'd let the converter do all the work. So, get a 10-bolt to put in if gears are holding you back and you can't or don't want to regear your Aussie.
