non computer controlled question

If i remove my the spark control computer and use an msd ignition instead, will my guages work properly?

I am concerned the the guages might receive their information, (speed, rpm, and others), from the computor. Is this the case?

1984 Z-28 305 LG4 to be changed to 350

Thanks, George

The gages don't receive info from the computer.

Just curious, why go to all the expense of changing to non-CC? MSD makes CC-compatible stuff.

You do know that if you take out the CC distributor, your CC carb won't work right, don't you?

Thanks for the info, I will be changing the carb, cam, and dist to aftermarket parts. I just happen to have most of the parts laying around from other projects so i wanted to build a new engine for the z28. I was concerned that if i made these changes that i might have to change the tach and speedometer as well if they received info from the computer.

For an '84, the computer and gages get their info from seperate sensors. Except for the vehicle speed sensor, which is on the back of the speedometer (and the speedo is driven by a cable).

The only possible "issue" is your torque converter lock-up, which gets its signal from the computer. If the computer isn't getting signals from either the carb or distributor, it won't send a lock-up signal to the TCC. That can be remedied with either a manual switch you rig up, or a lock-up kit from Summit or Jegs (the TCI kit is around $75, I believe, the Painless kit more like $125).

Assuming you have an auto tranny, that is.

Glad to hear you aren't buying new parts to do this change. Buying a new carb and/or distributor just doesn't make sense.
