lt1 or ramjet 350 swap
lt1 or ramjet 350 swap
At the present time I have a 305 tbi. I am wanting the larger engine and more horse. Out of the lt1 or the ramjet 350 which would be more bang for the buck and also which would be easier to swap into our cars with little fabrication. thanks for the help. this will be going in a 1992 camaro with a tremec tko
oh man you are in the same position I am.I have an lt1 350 out of a 94 camaro on my engine stand, but I have no harness an no brackets,i don't know if I want to go through all the trouble in getting all the harware to run it or get the ram-jet that comes off a pallet and bolt it in.good luck in your decision.at least you don't have to worry about running a fuel injection system for your car.
Well, at one time, I was considering the RamJet as a swap option. What swayed me away from it was the 2-bolt block, crappy pistons, and crappy cam. As well as not having closed loop operation (no O² sensor). But I guess a stock LT1 is the same thing, just with an O² sensor. So, bang-for-buck, go with the LT1. There's a better aftermarket for the LT1.
does either of you know if there is alot of fabrication to do if you have the ecm, harness, and everything else that I would need. Thanks for the input and the help.

I see one major issue here: emisions testing. If you have to pass them in your area you're fresh out of luck with the ramjet, and the LT1 would be a better canidate. Other than that I would say ramjet all the way. This engine is by no means 'crappy'. You'd have a torque curve that'd look like Rosie O'donell in a swimsuit, large and flat. This thing has 367 ft. lbs. at a mere 1600 rpm's, now that's what I'm talking about! I was going to drop one in my ride until I found my wallet wasn't big enough...yet. Rumor has it there are two updated versions in the works at GM right now, I think a 385 and a 405 horse model?

Go with the lt1. They are becoming cheaper everyday. You can add a good exhaust , a hot cam kit, and some headwork and get over 400 hp. I love mine. I wouldn't trade it for 2 ramjets. The lt1 is easyer to modify. You can reprogram the computer with lt1 edit. try getting the ramjet computer calibrated for future engine expansion.

man i have the ramjet in my car and by all means it is not crappy. the install was pretty straight foward. just swap all accessory brackets and accessories. the motor has the harness, so all u have to do is supply 12 volts. ground it. tap your igniton wire and fuel pump wire. and your basically ready to go.
word of caution you might not have enough hood clearance. i advise a cowl hood.
and a tip just in case you get it. re-enforce the hell out of your car. this motor is a torque monster

thanks for all the imput.....It sounds like both these engines would be good things to try. I have found an lt1 to lt4 swap kit that is suppose to make around 400 horse. the kit is about 2200 and this guy I know promises that he can get me the lt1 and the t56 for somewhere around 2500-3000 and then ontop of that get me the the lt4 kit. I think that is going to be the better thing for me. both are great ideas.....thanks again.
Lol. Looks like a couple of you took my use of the word "crappy" to heart. I guess what I should have said was: "2-bolt block, cast pistons, and mild cam."
No hard feelings. It's just those are the things that swayed me away from it. It is still a cool little motor, especially if you're not concerned with emissions.

Dude, I never said 2-bolts were bad. I just said that was a factor that swayed me away from the RamJet crate motor.
If people are gonna surgically dissect my posts, then they should at least take the time to read it through.

what would anyone say to going with the zz4 crate and putting a tbi on it? I have heard a few guys talking about it but I don't know how involved that would be. thanks
