I won't bore you too much (in case I get the thread locked because of lack of thirdgen content, it is however a thirdgen Charger!!), but actually not a lot. It's got a good strong 440 engine, that's just pi$$ing oil from every gasket. It's only done a few hundred miles in the last 5 years, and so hasn't been serviced properly. The sump gasket and the head gaskets are gone, but the sump gasket (or oil pan) is proving a major headache. You have to remove all the steering gear, and drop the exhausts, AND lift the engine 2 inches off the mounts, to allow enough clearance to swing the pan off. Got pi$$ed of with it, and haven't got a garage, so it's on the drive 'till I pick up momemntum again.

Regards,
Paul

Paul,
You really should lift it out and get it on an engine stand.

Dyno shows peak HP to be 422bhp@5400 rpm and peak torque is 435 lbs/ft @4500rpm and over 400 lbs/ft of torque from 2500 rpm right through to 5500 rpm.

Any more progress PM?

What are those headers? Hedmann? Which number? What Y pipe are you using?

Hi andy,
Well the engine bay is 90% finished and rewired. The engine itself is arriving in the country this weekend,so i will have it by mid next week.I think it'll prove too much work to get it in and finished to go to France at the end of April.I may be wrong but I have to wire in the new engine management system, the fuel lines and water lines. If i could have a few days solid on it then no probs but as my wife "doesnt understand me"i can only do a couple of hours here and there.
Im not too worried though so i'll just finish it as soon as i can but without cutting corners.

cheers

PM
PS the headers are headman part#68470,coated by ACS

Thanks PM.
That sounds all too familiar about the not understanding bit! My car has been in the garage since 1999 undergoing it's mods! Like you say, if we could have a few days solid at it, progress would be far far better.
I am just about to order the same headers as yours from ACS, plus the Y pipe (all coated), but I have asked them to weld a flange on to the end of the Y pipe before they coat. Then I can fab up a polished stainless section in place of the CAT and then a polished CAT back system, without having to use those stupid slip joints that mark the pipe!

Best of luck with your engine. I look forward to seeing some more photos.

Regards.
Andy.

PS Have you got the T56 already?

PM,

Are you going to be getting the car chassis dynod when you get it back together? It would be interesting to see what it puts out to the wheels when in the car.

well I got the new motor and very nice it looks too.
Hope to get it in this week and wired up and running properly by the end of the month.Im not now in a rush as my Lemans trip this month is now off due to my nipper playing in a rugby cup final on the same weekend.
However I have booked to go to Spa in September and come home via the Nurburgring,so that'll more than make up for it.
If any of you want me to take pictures of any particular thing i'm doing to the car then just ask.

I'd like a picture of you writing my name and address on your V5 if that's alright.

Good to hear it's coming together, get a really high resolution shot of the engine assembled, just before you put it in the car, that'll make me (sickwithenvy) happy....

Man that is a gorgeous engine.

I would like to do a conversion on my V6 Camaro to a 350hp or so crate engine. Still will be a daily driver when done though.

Not going to be for a year or two though. Interested to know where to get engines from.

gas "petrol"

Hello there all you Englishmen. I'm callin you from the Detroit michigan area aka THE MOTOR CITY. I have a question to ask of you guys across the pond. Question how much do you guys pay for gas aka "petrol" to you guys? Over here its about 2.00 usda a gallon for 94 octane . Also do you get it in gallons, like we do or in liters, pints, etc... thank you

hey juggernaut_69 you REALLY don't want to know what we pay for gas over here!!!

filled up my car today at 78.9 pence per LITRE... to do the conversion it's (roughly!) 4.5 litres per (UK) gallon and about U$1.80 to the pound... so it ain't cheap!!

Man you guys down south don't half get ripped off! 75.9 per litre (with an extra discount usually of 5p per litre due to shopping at the same supermarket making it 70.9p per litre) up here in sunny Scotland! which is $4.6 per US gallon.

Juggernaut : Bit of a hijack of the post!

Anyhew, Thats one neat looking transam now Powermite!

Powermite - are you gong to change the rocker covers or paint them to match your car?

Si - the only reason petrol is cheaper up there is because we subsidise you.

Mark: Somehow I don't think so, given that all your petrol comes through and from us!!!! England doesn't have petrol reserves! Scotland rules!

Living 20 miles from the UK's main oil refinery has its advantages! Especially when you have cars that run in the 13-17mpg range....

80.9p per liter here, so you're looking at £3.64 per gallon, x 1.75 for echange rate,

$6.37 per gallon.

Well i'm getting on quite well now.I think the list of things left to do is;
Make up and fit petrol lines
Water plumbing is 90%finished
wiring 90% finished
Bleed clutch and fit slave on gearbox
Fit a gearbox mount.(got a poly one now which i dont want to use)
refit exhaust system
The most awkward job is finding somewhere to mount the MSD external coil
and that'll be it.
Hope to fire it up over the bank holiday weekend

Glad to hear it's up and running. Is it still a MAF car or have you changed it over to Speed Density?

Be sure to keep us all posted on events.
