Help!!!!

Brian picked up my IROC last night and drove to Leicester no problems. Today on his home leg the car started to overheat and now there is a knocking noise Sounds to me like it could be head gasket???

Anyway AA are there and I was wondering if there was anywhere in Plymouth Devon, that could service/ sort the car out? Please let me know any details you guys may have.

Cheers,
Felix

Dunno if you saw my post on the AACI site, perhaps the ignition timing has slipped?

more likely than a head gasket, the engine is waaay too new, and they aren't prone to it without turbo / blower / nitrus..

seems a LOT more likely that a blown head gasket, its just not something that happens on 8000 mile GM crate engines..

Overheating with corresponding knock could be an indication that the oil was cooked and thinned to the point of having inadequate viscosity. Those knocking sounds might have been bearings.

Once the engine has cooled, restart the car briefly and see of the noise is present. Monitor oil pressure as well. If the noise is present when cold, mechanical damage mat have occurred. If the noise is not apparent, change the oil/filter immediately and avoid 5W-anything. Obviously, the overheating situation will have to be addressed.

Thanks for the advice Vader, the whole thing is such a shame. By the sounds of things, the damage is pretty serious.

I've posted asking for anyone with a 305 or 350 for sale to let me know as it could be an option for Brian in the interim?

Thanks,
Felix

to be honest, you can go faster with a goodwrench, a set of used vortec heads, and some aftermarket goodies..

goodwrench is less than 100BHP down on the ZZ4 before you mod it, but its £3000 cheaper...

Mine are crap. Can't work on the engine on days below 99 degrees F. Hood keeps hitting me on the head.
How cheap?

My struts don't work, have been using a cane as a hood prop since I got the car. Any struts for a transam going cheap?

I don't know! ZZ42 and Phil leading us up the garden path! Any sign of free (or cheap) parts and it's like vultures around a rhino carcass! Private joke indeed

Andy.
